Summary: In connection with his official ‘Visit Government Day’, under the Chevening Programme, Dr. P.M. Mathew visited the Ministry of Trade and Industry at Downing Street. In the day long Programme, the work of the various Departments were explained to him by the concerned Heads of Departments. He had detailed discussions with the senior officials of the Ministry on the shaping of SME policy in the United Kingdom, as also the various programmes being implemented in the country. Mathew also shared with them his experience with the study on ‘Social Enterprises’ ,as also of his field work experience in the city of Acton, Western London. Later, Mathew also had discussions with the U.K.Minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Dr. Kim Howells. The Minister hosted a dinner at the Lancaster House, St. James Street, wherein there was detailed discussions between the two on the opportunities of co operation between India and the UK in the SME sector.
