Summary: Sri. C. Vasudevan, L.A.S. (Retired) was a Government official in the South Kanara district, when it was a part of the former Madras Presidency. When linguistic states were carved out in 1956 Kasaragod was gifted away to Kerala, and Sri. C.Vasudevan continued his official career in Kasaragod area. He occupied top posts of the Kerala Government in Thiruvananthapuram and re tired as such. He spent most of his official career in the South Kanara District and Kasaragod. He was a well-known and popu lar official in this region. During his official tenure here he also utilised his time to study the lives of the people of this area. He conducted deep field study of the Koragas living in the land area spreading from southern boundary of Kasaragod to Udupi in the North and has brought out this precious volume throwing search light on the Koraga community. He toured extensively in the his toric Tulu Nad, keenly observed and studied the lives of the Koragas. He also studied the works of the Indian and foreign historians like Sri. Ramappa Vormika, Dr. Francis Buchanan (Brit ish), Ullal Raghavendra Rao, M.T. Walhouse, Sherring, B.A Saletore and Professor Richard Pankhurst (Ethiopia), who had written on the ancient history of Tulu Nad. He endeavoured to collect honest evidence by visiting places like Karwar, Dharwad, Mysore, Mercara, Sirsi, Banavasi, Ananthapura (Sagar Taluk Karnataka), Shivamogga, Bangalore, Calcutta, Madras. Kozhikode, and Thiruvananthapuram, for materials regarding Koragas that he found in the books he read. The present book is the sweet fruit of his assiduous endeavour during the past 35 years and it is really a commendable achievement.
