COOPERATIVES blend the social expectations of the community from a modern enterprise with its economic imperatives of efficiency and growth. The cooperatives do not form just another set of state sponsored agencies to perform some secondary role in socio-economic life, but constitute an important plank in the strategy for development in most of the third world countries.
The principles and techniques of efficient management evolved in the private sector, especially abroad, should apply to the cooperatives also. Hence they have to be put before cooperative managers, administrators, teachers and trainers, and political leaders in the context of Indian cooperatives. This has been done by both Indian as well as foreign cooperators in this book of essays which would be of use to all con cerned with cooperatives.
It is a useful volume not only for the cooperative managers and leaders but also for the students of co operative management, administra tors, economists and social workers.
