The responce to earlier editions of this book has been very encouraging Especially there is a constant demand for this book from the candidate for (LDCE 30%) of various discipline of Railways. These rules always undergo changes and obviously such books lose much of their usefulness unless revised and brought up-to-date from time to time. With this end in view I have taken pains to release the present edition.

In this edition a new chapter "Railway Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 1997 and Pay Fixation thereunder" has been added with latest clarifica tions issued by the Railway Board. Besides all the orders and instructions, implementing Vith CPC recommendations, issued upto 31 August, 1998

Though the book has been primarily written for candidates appearing in Class II L.D.C.E. and various other examinations and promotion tests nevertheless it is extensively being used as a reference book by the officers as well as the staff in their day-to-day working.
