Summary: The Banking Commission was set up by the Government of India in February 1969 to review the working of the banking system as a whole and that of the non-banking financial intermediaries including indigenous bankers. The Commission has also been specifically asked to review the existing legislative enactments relating to commercial and co-operative banking. The Terms of Reference of the Commission are given in Appendix I.
