Summary: The Household Tables which come under the HH-series of the 1981 Census Tabulation Plan cover a variety of data relating to household as a unit. These tables give the quality of housing and housing facilities of Scheduled Castes, whether the household owns a house and if not whether the household owns a house site in the village or town, household cultivation, household by size, number of workers and number of literates in households. All the tables of this series have been generated on the basis of processing of 20 per cent sample of household schedules of this State. The present publication is the culmination of the process which started with field operations of 1981 Census under the inspiring leadership of Shri P. Padmanabha, who was the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India during 1977-1983. The 1981 Census of India was ably conducted in the State West Bengal by Shri S.N. Ghosh, Director of Census Operations. The tables presented in this volume were processed on the computer. This volume is a product of labour of a team of dedicated officers in this organisation. Constraints of space preclude a mention of all the officers at various levels in the Census and Data Processing Divisions of the office of the Registrar General, India who saw this project through its various stages.
