This study has provided evidence that the structure of support granted by the EU to its agricultural sector has contributed to the continued presence of distortions in the market for agricultural commodities. Although the recent reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the EU is aimed at reducing some of the more distorting forms of support, the magnitude of reduction that is proposed is not expected to have a major impact on the market given the limited efforts it makes at reining in the overall level of subsidies.
