Summary: In this timely and valuable book, Professor CN Vakil, the renowned economist, evaluates the Economic Policy Statement that the Janata Party issued sometime ago. He critically examines the Policy Statement, pointing out the limitations and advantages of the path that the government is all set to follow. The object of this small book is to make some constructive suggestions for the better presentation of the Policy Statement as well as for some aspects of its implementation. While not an exhaustive treatment, it stimulates further thinking on the theory and practice of the proposed policy. If, in this process, it helps in the development of a more polished document of the Policy Statement, which may be more logical and practicable, less confusing and more read able, the objective will have been served. From this point of view, the major thrust is towards under scoring the chief trends of the various objectives and their limitations. The need for constant updating in keeping with a changing situation is also emphasised.
