I am vased to welcome the publication of this important book which is the proceedings of the Regional ce on Technology for Rural Development. Malaysia has been a very successful model d to the application of Science and Technology in the process of development. COSTED anised number of meetings and programmes in Malaysia, in co-operation with the Malaysian tific Association and has gained much valuable experience. We are happy to have been associated with the organisation of this meeting which has been essentially organised to examine the gap between research and results, between promise and realisation in different areas which influence the life of the common man. It is most encouraging that practically all the important national organisations in Malaysia have joined hands in the process of planning for this conference. I must compliment the editors in bringing out the proceedings in quick time. I am sure that the proceedings will be extremely useful to several institutions.
