Issues relating to children have always been of great concern to every individual, government, inter- national agencies, voluntary organizations and research institutions. There are agencies set up
especially at various levels to look into these issues. Within university system also, children have been the focus of study and research under various subject disciplines.
This bibliography attempts to provide an over-
view of the existing academic research carried out in over 150 Indian universities since 1857 to 1990 in the form of theses/dissertations submitted for Bachelor's,
Master's, M.Phil and Ph.D. Degrees. Theses for enteries have been collected from more than 50 secondary information sources of Family and Social dynamics, Education, Physical growth, Health and
Nutrition, Mental Growth, Personality Development and Social Psychology, Social Problems, Child Labour, Work and Employment, Delinquency and Crime,
Literature, Welfare Programmes, Policies and
Agencies. For easy access extensive indices for scholars' names, keywords, geographical areas and univer- sities are provided. Various appendices list secon-dary Reference Sources, Libraries visited and the list of Indian universities.
This compilation will serve as a tool for the
bibliographic control of academic researches on children and help in the avoidance of duplication of efforts. It will also help in pointing out to some dark areas of research as well.
This bibliography will serve as an important ref-erence source not only to social science scholars, researchers and information professionals but also to all those interested in the present and future of children in our country.
