Summary: Development of rural economy has been one the main goals of developmental planning in India. Of course, this has registered some improvement as far as general economic activity and raising of the level of income are concerned, but the structural problems of rural economy could not be solved to the desired extent despite planned efforts for rural development over forty years. Therefore, the strategies of rural development have been changing over the years. In this book, seventeen research papers which tried to cover the most important facets of the rural economy of India have been included. It also seeks to examine the impact of various development programmes on the intended groups. These papers are carefully sculptured by the learned contributors. It is hoped that this book will prove helpful for students, teachers and scholars engaged in this field.
