The story of overworked women in the rural areas of the developing and underdeveloped countries is too well known. The type of agricultural activities generally expected of women is highly labour-intensive and the rural women generally do not enjoy the benefits of new technologies. Their wages are generally less because it is assumed that the efficiency of women's labour is poor compared to that of men.
This volume deals with the burning problems of Women in Agriculture and Rural Development where new technologies take decades to reach and age-old prejudices dilute the effects. The volume also includes in its scope the Indian context in selected areas of focus, particularly marriage, migration and policy initiatives.
