Summary: The Indian Council for Cultural Relations was set up by the Government of India in 1950 with a view to establishing, reviving and strengthening cultural relations between India and other countries. This aim is sought to be achieved through a broad range of programmes and activities. Instituted in 1958 by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations as a mark of honour to the memory of its first President, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the Azad Memorial Lectures are intended to contribute towards the promotion of better understanding among different peoples of the world. Eminent scholars from India and abroad are invited to speak on subjects of fundamental importance to all of us.
