Summary: As a social welfare legislation the law relating to Employees Provident Funds Act and Schemes has been under constant change. Much material both in the statutory law and in the commentary has been considered while revising this work for the seventh edition. Many more provisions of the EPF (Amendment) Act, 1988 have been brought into force since the publication of the last edition. The wage limit for application of the schemes has also been raised from Rs. 2500 to 3500 by the EPF (Third Amendment) Scheme, 1990 vide GSR No. 689 dated 19.10.1990 by amending the definition of "excluded employee" in Para 2(f)(ii) of the EPF Scheme, 1952 w.e.f. 1-11-1990. The other amendments to the various schemes have been noted appropriately and the schemes amended accordingly.
