It is only after independence some emphasis is given to women's education but still the glaring disparities among different socio-cultural and regional groups exist and would continue under the existing policy framework. Women have been neglected in the national development approach inspite of their significant contributions in ushering green revolution and livestock rearing. Multiplicity of institutions has certainly benefited women folk but mushrooming of voluntary agencies is not desirable inspite of the best performance of voluntary agencies. What role different institutional structures have played in her education and training is discussed at length and future course of involvement is debated. Different agricultural development strategies adopted since independence have been critically examined for assessing the place of women in these and urgent action needed to meet the further challenges.
