Summary: Economic development and technological progress can be compatible with reasonable protection of the environment. New environmental management techniques are in use around the world, helping enterprises to meet their ob jectives of profit, growth and survival, while protecting the environment. A series of training materials in environmental management has been I developed to support environmental management training in enterprises, training centres and institutes, universities, business schools, projects, etc. The series was produced and tested by the Management Development Branch of the International Labour Office for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with several management institutions. The project team was co-ordinated and the materials edited by Dr. R.G.A. Boland of the ILO. The materials are published in five parts (separate books) as follows: Book 1 General environmental management Book 2 Project management and the environment Book 3 Production management and the environment Book 4 Environmental management game Book 5 Supporting environmental management training materials A technical manual Introduction to environmental management for managers, trainers and consultants will be published separately. The ILO wishes to thank the UNEP for having supported the programme and all institutions and individuals who participated in developing and testing for their collaboration.
