The discipline of victimology is of rather new origin which has got momentum in the US and Europe during the past 50 years. It concentrates on criminal victim relationship. It also deals with the social and economic status of the victims and aspects of compensation.
The present book is a study in victimology of the Gond-Madia tribe. Tribals are generally a peace loving people. Gond-Madia are among the most backward tribes dominant in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. They have been subject to exploitation by the higher castes for centuries. Because of poverty, illiteracy, ignorance and timidity, they have been reluctant to speak out. This is the reason why many crimes-mostly those against their women go unreported. Though a cognizable offence, there has not been a single complaint against bondage of the tribals. The presence of the state authority has only added to their harassment. All liberative laws also seem to have failed here. These tribals are born in bondage and they die in bondage The book deals with bondage and other forms of exploitation against the tribals. It also goes into the problem of their self-styled saviours-Naxalites Based on first hand information, the book will prove to be of intense interest to the scholars of social aces and law. It will also be useful to the policy formulators and general public who care to think about the stability of a political system Justice Krishna lyer, in his foreword to the book says:
"The book Tribal Exploitation deserves close perusal for those who have concern for the unity integrity and fraternity of Indian community.
