Tribes are an integral part of the Indian Civilisation. They have contributed to the development and continuity of this great and ancient civilisation. Constitutionally and morally, we are bound to protect their interests. In this context, tribal develop ment has been aired a great deal in recent years in this country. Studies focusing on individual tribes and tribal welfare have proliferated. Literature on the tribes is growing.
This calls for systematic compilation of data, analysis and interpretations. The sources of information must be known for further research and planning.
The present volume is a comprehensive bibliography of books, monographs, articles, press reports, Ph. D. theses and published and unpublished reports on the scheduled tribes of the entire southern region-the four states of the southern region and the two centrally administered states of Goa and Pondicherry. An alphabetical list of scheduled tribes of this region as per Government of India's notification is included. The bibliography consists of 4 sections: 1. Alphabetical list of Scheduled Tribes in Southern Region; 2. Author bibliography; 3. Subject bibliography; and 4. General bibliography. In the last section General bibliography - the infor mation is arranged state wise with a general section on southern region.
This volume will function as a useful research and reference tool for the research scholars interested in bringing out mono graphs on different tribes and different state governments engaged in formulating and implementing various programmes for the welfare of the scheduled tribes in this region.
