The origin and development of Parliamen tary institutions in India can be traced to her colonial past. The protracted struggle for self-rule and democracy by the Indian people under the leadership of the Indian National Congress against the alien rule has also provided them an opportunity to train themselves in Parliamentary institu tlons. The performance of the natives in these Institutions have been commended even by the statesmen of the country of their origin. We have a good start and uptil recently a fairly good track record.. However problems have arisen in the recent past. Doubts were expressed about the viability of these institutions In many circles including the portals of power. Despite all this, the people in India have to prove time and again of the success of Parliamentary Democracy through massive mandates.
