This book, containing twelve essays by Third World economists and institutions, assesses the facets, problems and prospects of South-South economic cooperation.
This volume is divided into three parts. Part One presents an overview of the Third World's economic problems arising out of the present global economic system. It highlights the advantages of South-South cooperation and in this context analyses the role of the Global System of Trade Preferences among developing countries. It evaluates the utility of joint ventures and regional export refinance mechanism and examines the possibilities of expansion of mutual trade through cooperation among State Trading Organisations.
Part Two analyses the experiences of regional cooperation in Asia particularly of ASEAN and examines the prospects of South Asian Regional Cooperation (SARC).
Part Three presents a profile of India's economic and technical cooperation with other developing countries and also its economic relations with Africa. This volume is indispensable for policy-makers, scholars and students of Third World issues.
