The present work is essentially an analytical and critical exercise in the economics of development, and the distortions that have developed in the Indian economy in course of more than three decades of planned development.
The book has attempted to examine employment in the farm sector, and the economy, the distribution of national income and its effect in economic growth, the behaviour of capital output ratio and its role in Indian planning, the employment implications of industrialization, the phenomenon of inter-state disparity in economic growth and its causes, the nature of the new farm technology and its impact on the of output and employment in the farm sector and the role of the public sector in the economy.
The book, however is not purely an academic exercise, it has also tried to formulate the policy-mix to be adopted to tackle the issues which the book has attempted to analyse.
