Process of industrialization and technological alternatives

Academic research on the Indian industrial policy is currently passing through a very exciting phase, calling into question the basis of policies inherited from the Second Five-Year Plan. The policy of liberalization which was initiated in the mid-seventies and given a push in the early eighties is now being pursued with much vigour. The Indo-Swedish Symposium organized by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and Swedish Academy for Research Cooperation with Developing Countries (SAREC) on options for a sustainable society has chosen to compare notes on the "Process of Industrialization and Technological Alternatives."

There are two papers covering the broad process of industrialization and the rate and pattern of industrial growth. A second set of papers discusses the process of technical development, diffusion and growth of specific industries like steel and machinery. And there is a third set dealing with techno logical dynamism, development in the capital goods and machine tool industries and technological adoption policies.
