Summary: The present study is a pioneering work of a developing region- namely Shekhawati in the context of the developing economy of Rajasthan which after suffering a long spell of fuedal social order has been moved slowly and stead-fastly on the road of modernity. The work becomes alll tthe more fascinating because of the comparisions with contemporary situations in other regions of the Indian Union. The people of the Shekhawati region are traditionally known for their business accumen and enterprising known that a number of top industralists such as the Birlas, the Dalmias, the Poddars, the sinighanias the Kanorias the Goenkas etc, who virtually control the economy of the country hail from this very particular region.
