The interesting subject of political communication becomes more meaningful and exciting when app ied in empirical situations. Yet there are very few studies in this area which have related mass media and public opinion to actual events of great political importance,
Mr. Sunanda Arya's present study fills a gap in the analysis of political communication strategies in the immediate context of international political upheavals. The present work examines the role of All India Radio during the crisis period of Bangladesh War of 1971. The news, talks and other programmes of A I.R. related to Bangladesh war have been examined in-depth by the author. The content analysis has been supported with an empirical study of the public opinion. Several revealing conclusions regarding the credibility of A.I.R. and other international media throw up a number of hypotheses that have immense heuristic value for further research. The book will be found interesting by scholars as well as policy makers.
