Industrial development and capacity utilisation

Economic development is a two-dimensional concept. Optimum development of resources is its one dimension, their optimum utilisation the other. The widely observed large-scale under utilisation of industrial capacity in many a developing country is the antithesis of planned development, particularly in those countries, such as India, which have opted for the industry led growth strategy.
The causes of underutilisation of industrial capacity can be internal as well as external. This book addresses itself to the concept and measurement of utilisation of industrial capacity, the causes and extent of underutilisation of industrial capacity, and policy formulations which aim at better utilisation of the country's scarce resources.
