Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a highly respected veteran politician who had served as the Prime Minister of India during 1998-2004. He was a Member of Parliament for almost five decades; in fact he was the only parliamentarian who had been elected from four different States at different times, namely, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Delhi. He made his foray into politics during the pre-independence era when he took part in the Quit India Movement which led to his arrest and imprisonment. He was one of the founding members of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh, a nationalist party – later on as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1980. A multi-faceted personality, he was a skilled poet. He was a patriot at heart and participated in India’s struggle for freedom even as a student and edited many nationalist Hindi newspapers. Also known his love for Hindi – he was the first person to deliver a speech in Hindi as India’s Foreign Minister at the UN General Assembly. He was very famous for his oratory skills and held several prestigious positions in Indian politics before being elected the Prime Minister. During his stint as Prime Minister, the country witnessed an enormous improvement in education, economic development, infrastructure, foreign relations and political governance, etc etc. This book is a tribute to Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee who breathed his last on 16th August 2018 in New Delhi. His funeral was attended by lakhs of people from all walks of life including leaders of opposition parties, VVIPs and foreign dignitaries. Through this book the readers can see all shades of his personality, ups and downs in his life, how he brought Bharatiya Janata Party into limelight in political arena, became Prime Minister of India and served the nation with great dedication. The book will also serve as a beacon of light to coming generation of bureaucrats and students of political science.
