Summary: On 23 June 1985, Dr Chandrasekhar Sankurathri was to see his world torn apart—his wife, son and daughter were all on the ill-fated Air India Kanishka flight from Toronto. It was a tragedy beyond anyone’s worst nightmares. But, as Helen Keller said, ‘Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it.’ There is no better example of this than in the path Dr Sankurathri chose thereafter. Channelling his grief into social endeavours, he returned to Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh and started a school, and then an eye hospital, for rural people. A Ray of Hope is his story — the inspiring journey of one man’s decision to set aside his despair, and make a difference with his life.
