Summary: Considered to be one of the greatest Russian poets and the founder of modern Russian literature, Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin pioneered the use of vernacular speech in his poems, at the age of fifteen. He became committed to social reform and emerged as a spokesman for literary radicals for whom he was exiled to southern Russia. Pushkin died at the young age of thirty seven when he was mortally wounded in a duel. His famous works include The Captive of the Caucasus, Dubrovsky, The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Knights, The Queen of Spades, Eugene Onegin, The Captain’s Daughter, Winter Evening, Boris Godunov, The Bronze Horseman. This play poignantly recreates Puskin’s turbulent life, his struggle with himself, his love for Marya Raevsky, and finally his death in a duel with his wife’s alleged lover.
