Brahmi was the script effectively and extensively used by the Mauryan Emperor Asoka for propagating the Dhamma during the 3rd century B. C. The book gives a historical background of the Indian scripts and deals in brief about the origin and decipherment of Brahmi script, its alphabets and system of writing and the advent of Mauryan inscriptions as found in different parts of India.
