India launched its experiment in economic development, using the technique of planning, immediately after attaining Independence in 1947. She has completed six national development plans with rewarding success. The seventh Plan is already half-way through and the preparations for the Eight have started in right earnest.
The resilience demonstrated by he economic system in the Unprecedented drought its proof, if one required that our development model has been laid on sound foundations, thanks to the vision of Jawaharlal Nehru, the founder of economic planning of India. The Indian planning system has become an inspiration to many countries in the developing world. Having achieved the green and white revolutions, she is on the threshold of spectacular managerial and technological breakthroughs.
