The Southeast Asian Social Science Association (SEASSA) was founded in October 1971 with the objective to promote the advancement of social sciences in Southeast Asia. This publication contains an edited symposium of papers presented at a workshop held in January 1975 at Kuala Lumpur and Penang, as part of the Association's series of regional conferences with special reference to thetas Asian experience in an development.
Southeast Asian countries have undergone significant changes over recent years, and in the process social sciences have played a crucial part. The papers in this symposium attempt to analyze the important role of social sciences in development and are of obvious relevance to other developing countries.
