Seven years have passed since the release of the first edition of our book 'cooperative Banking in India This time we are able to combine a team work of associating one more expert in the field, Dr. John Winfred. This Co operative work has enriched the quality of the book by means of adding latest trends that have taken place in the field of Cooperative Banking.
The grip of the RBI over the cooperative Banks has been tightened which ensured the quality of their working in par with Commercial Banks. Public have started acknow ledying the merits and status of cooperative banks espe cially at urban areas. In rural areas the PACS have broad based their activities. Branch banking as a phenomenon has picked up with cooperative banks.
The establishment of NABARD in 1982 has given a shot to the arms of cooperative Banks. Certain duplications in funnelling the help has been narrowed by means of chan nelling all assistance and help to the cooperatives through NABARD. It is the duty of the NABARD to make the Cooperative Banks to become self reliant in their resources.
