Summary: It gives me great pleasure to introduce to students and research scholars of international economics a concise and tersely written treatise on fundamentals of international trade theory and practice by Dr. V. A Avadhani. This small book unfolds a whole gamut of trade problems both theoretical and practical issues. He has introduced the problems connected with the dynamics of international trade with such ease and felicity that even a common man could get a good grasp of international trade in relation to Growth Economics. The most redeeming feature of the book is that the manifold practical problems connected with procedures eign trade, Government regulations and a host of related issues are discussed in a simple language so that University and College students are oriented with a practical bias The subject of International Trade and Finance in the con temporary world economy is highly dynamic. International econo mic affairs are volatile and intricately dependent upon socio-political factors. The importance of the subject of international trade and finance emerges out of this highly complicated nature of relations, In fact, there ard not many books on this subject by Indian authors. Dr. Avadhani has attempted to present the subject-matter in this area in a highly simplified pattern, suitable to both the under graduate and post-graduate students. International Trade and Finance also influence the national incomes and welfare of each of the partners in international econo mic relations. Trade, aid, growth and welfare go together in the macro-sense. National welfare is thus dependent upon inter national economic relations, trade and aid flows and national prosperity is linked with international economic development. The national economic policies require coordination for international economic prosperity and the subjects of international trade, finance, investment and aid are interlinked. All these aspects are aptly dealt with and their interconnections explained by Dr. Avadhani in his book, with a fascinating case and dexterity.
