Summary: Inspite of an estimated record wheat output of 36 million tons and an upward revision of procurement price from 117/-to Rs 130/-per qunital, the market arrivals as well as procurement of wheat remained at a low ebb in most markets of Punjab and Haryana, the two major surplus states, in April/May 1981. According to the information supplied by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Ministry of Agriculture, wheat arrivals in Punjab upto the end of 3rd week of may in 1981 were lower by 23.6 percent as compared to the same period in 1980 May.
