This Volume Eight studies the industrial policy and development in India. During the last four decades since the launching of the First Five Year Plan, planning for industrial development of India has been directed not only at accelerating growth of output and employment but also at achieving socio economic objectives, such as regional dispersal of growth, promotion of village and small industries, and prevention of monopolies and concentration of economic power. The public sector has been provided a leading role, partly as a catalyst, in moulding and accelerating the process of industrialisation within the frame work of a "Mixed Economy".
The essays included in the volume discuss the lessons drawn from the experience of Indian industrialisation and suggest strategy and policy frame to achieve the objectives.
