This Volume Five studies the problem of poverty and economic development.
The systematic understanding of poverty calls for an examination of how poverty emerged in the past, what perpetuates it, and how it continues to emerge today. There is no denying the fact that these questions are related to the structure of the system, its working, and the interaction between the two. The system produces not only poverty, it produces growth as well. It pushes some towards and below poverty line, it pulls others into prosperity and affluence. It makes it impossible for the many to have their limited needs satisfied; it caters to the growing wants of the few. This is the dynamics of development which explains both poverty and growth.
