Summary: It is not possible for our country to hasten the pace of National development, if we donot adequately provide for the basic needs of its population. The important one being all round rural development by improving their in.ccme and employment disturbing their envi rons and displacing their usual activity. In this book an attempt has been made to bring together the experiences of specialists: Economists, Engineers, Administrators, Sociologists, Behaviou ral scientists, Medical experts, working in the field of Rural Development. This volume has been divided into two major sections: the first one dealing with empirical works and the second dealing with policy matters. Most of the studies are of diagnostic nature, dealing with the problems as they exist, in the field. The observations and recommendations generated out of the experts practical field experience would go a long way to help the plan ners, administrators and policy makers to take realistic course of action.
