Summary: After publications of my three articles on public sector in the Times of India in August 1986, there has been a considerable debate on the subject and certain quarters have even tried to create a deliberate misunderstanding to confuse the issue. I have always maintained that the public sector was created to serve the cause of initiating socialist structure of economy and it had to play a vanguard role by acquiring a commanding height not only to set an example but to guide the economic development of the country to ensure balanced growth.
