The book is a pioneering study of all the public undertakings managed by the government of Orrisa. It traces the origin and development of public undertakings in the pre-planned era in the state and analyses the growth and pattern of investment in the public undertakings by the State Government between the years 1951 to 1969.
Detailed investigation has been made with regard to all of the four types of public sector organisations prevailing in the State departmental undertakings, statutory corporations companies under the joint management. A comparative study of the performance of the private sector with the public enterprises has been made showing the general trend of performance in both the sectors.
