Summary: Resin has been an important non-wood minor forest produce tapped from Chir forests in J7K, HP and UP. Its harvesting and processing generate employment for thousands of labour in the local areas. Its two main constituents ; rosin and turpentine oil are used in the manufacture of a number of industrial products of common ue and their demand is constantly on the rise. Resin production, however, has been on the decline since 1976-77 resulting in widening the gap, in their demand and supply. In adequate supply of resin also affects the viability of processing units.
