The environmental pollution and environmental awareness is passing through a very exciting phase in the short history of its development. This workshop sponsored by U.G.C. on "Environmental Pollution and its Impact on the Level of Organism in the Society" held in the month of June 1986 at A.N. College Patna had the unique opportunity of capturing the flavour of excite ment. The workshop was attended by nearly one hundred and fifty delegates re presenting almost all the states of the country and a very large number of observers. Some of the leading scientists of the country presented the latest state of knowledge into which the composite disciplines of environmental sciences is demarcated for the purpose of operational convinience. The present volume contains the full text of papers presented in the workshop. It is my sincere hope that the materials presented in this volume will be of value to researcher and the student alike. I am most grateful to the authors of the papers who have wilingly co-operated. I am also grateful to Bharati Bhawan (Publishers & Distributors), Patna for their co-operation and for keeping to the time schedule set for the publication.
