Summary: New trend in historical research has brought 'the peasant' and their 'struggles' into some prominence. The present study represents one such attempt in this field. The theme chosen by the author was for one obvious reason owing to that the eco nomic framework of India, or any part thereof, has since earliest times, been pre dominantly agrarian. In a vast sub continent like the untruncated India of the recent past, geographical and ecological factors differ widely leading to regional variations in feudal-ryot relationships, hereditament and allied privileges even in limited areas and during any specific period. In no particular area of the country are these differences more notice able than in United Provinces.
