Summary: Since Fulcrum of Asia was published in New York in 1968, almost two decades have passed, and major events have happened in the world and in Asia such as the communist triumph and American debacle in Vietnam and Indochina, the end of detente, and the undeclared Cold War II, the Helsinki Accord and Europe's quest for its own identity and distinctive role, changes in the Sino-American relationship since the diplomatic breakthrough of 1972, the Bangladesh liberation war, the Indian intervention in Bangladesh and the defeat of the Pakistani army at the hands of the Indian interventionist force, the conclusion of the Indo-Soviet treaty of August 1971, the war betweer, China and Vietnam in February 1979 and the Vietnamese military intervention in Kampuchea towards the end of the year, which also saw the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan a year and a half after the Marxist (Saur) revolution in Kabul, the fall of the Shah of Iran and the Khomeini .evolution.... the list of traumatic events is still not complete.
