THE FOURTH GENERAL ELECTIONS in India held in February 1967 brought into sharp focus the divergent points of view of the
various political partis. The three previous General Elections were over-shadowed by Nehru's personality and the result, notwith-
standing some minor upsets, was a foregone conclusion. With the passing away of Nehru, the various political parties had to contest the elections primarily on the basis of their programmes and policies. In the present volume, leaders of the seven All-India parties write in reply to a common questionnaire and attempt to define what they have to offer to the people of India, if their party
is elected to power. As a result the reader gets a vivid picture of the political alternatives facing India.
