The problem of "Casteism" in Indian Politics and specially in Bihar is getting more serious day by day. The controversy regarding reser vation of posts on the basis of caste in the public employment has raised issues which are complex and of far reaching consequences. It is threatening the very fabric of the State by tearing apart its social and national stru cture. Constitutionally job reservation on the basis of caste has become an exercise into paralogism.
in Bihar, after the implementation of job reservation policy in 1977, the entire State is divided into the two main groups of "upper castes and backward castes". The caste based politics of upper caste versus backward caste is playing effective role in the State as evidenced in the recent caste riots e.g. Belchi Pars Bigha, Pipra, Sargna, Rohtas, Dhanura, Tarmia, Rafiganj etc.
In the present book, an effort has been made to explain the role of caste in Bihar politics in its true form. The author has drawn attention to this acute problem by explaining which are dominating castes of Bihar and what is their role? What is the role the caste plays at different levels during Elections? Why the issue of upper caste versus backward caste has gained importance in Bihar? Why the policy of seat reservation has created a more conflicting situation in Bihar State as com pared to the other States of India? What will be the future of casteism in Bihar politics? All these pertinent questions have been ably dealt with in the present volume.
