Summary: The current decade has witnessed a marked increase in developmental activity in India. Innumerable small voluntary agencies are working side by side with large government ones. Yet, there is little exchange of information between these groups and many of them do not have access to literature from other countries. This inadequacy of information often affects the quality of decision-making and hampers the sharing of new techniques and innovations. Indian Social and Economic Develop ment has been designed to cater to this urgent need of providing a comprehen sive abstracting and indexing service for all those engaged in the development process. It contains about 600 entries divided into six areas - Ecology, Human Resources, Women/Children, Income Generation, Empowerment, and Debates. Each item provides full bibliographic details and a description of the contents. The compilers have laid emphasis on lite rature dealing with field experience, case studies, newly evolved decision making strategies, and resources and tools for development. As such, this bibliography enhances access to some of the most valuable material on develop ment which otherwise comes to the attention of only a limited few. A valuable reference tool for planners, policy-makers, communicators, activists, and researchers in fact, anyone con cerned with development.
