The book was partly. written in 1972, while the remaining portion of the book was completed afterwards. he undertook to write this book after acquiring detailed informations from the history documents of British Government, relating to South Asia and other relevant literature connected with the history of the Himalayan regions. This book is an outcome of patient and objective analysis after. years of introspection. As a Bhutani author I am deeply in debted to those great authors who took the trouble of writing about Bhutan 300 years back as also to such other later authors who wrote on Bhutan in their writings. Today, as in the past Bhutan has a great dearth of historians. It is very unfortunate that Bhutan has no such writers as could express themselves in Gorkhali or in Bhota language which are actually the languages of the Bhutanese people. Creative writing is negligible in Bhutan. Indian Gorkhas could have helped a lot in fulfilling this gap, but it would be to the distaste of Bhota racial regime as the Gorkha literature of India reflects the ideals of democracy, which scare the Bhota feudal kingdom; and so they would not allow the people of Bhutan to be exposed to the ideas which may prove a threat to their authority. The extent to which the Devnagri Script and Gorkhali languages are neglected in Bhutan by Bhota racial Government is amply proved by the fact that notwithstanding the fact that Gorkhali is widely understood and spoken in Bhutan, it has not been accorded the status of the national language of the state. It is disgraceful for the people of Bhutan that English along with Bhota language is being used as the official language of the country.
