Summary: SCIENTISTS present papers to other scientists and members of the general public at the annual meetings of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. In Section economists and to audiences statisticians have participated actively in the meetings. The success with which leading economists, over a period of 125 years, have accepted the challenge of presenting their subject to containing both economists and non-economists has resulted in a rich accumulation of papers. This volume contains papers on the scope and method of economics and statistics which were read to Section F from 1860 to 1913. The second volume will contain papers on particular aspects of economics which were read to the Section from 1875 to 1925. Finally it is hoped that a third volume of post-1925 papers will be published.
