JUDICIAL JUSTICE-A NEW Focus, is an incisive and constructive analysis of the judicial system by a veteran judge and social re former. His perspective is 'Swadeshi' and his objective people-oriented justice. The three lectures presented in the volume were originally delivered at the Campus Law Centre of the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, in April 1985 as part of their annual Endowment Lectures. They present in a very real sense the personality, commitment and scholar ship of one of Independent India's outstanding judges who pioneered. several new approaches and strategies in social justice from the Nation's Apex Court.
Judicial reform for our situation demands careful study of the causes of its alienation and in ability to give equal justice to all. Justice Iyer identifies these causes and offers alternate strategies, both structural and processual. His proposals have a futuristic perspective based on values of human dignity and concerns for social justice. He is disturbed by the legislative responses to the Punjab problem and suggests moderation and understanding. Looking at the failure of the judicial machinery, and the possible lines for reform, Justice Iyer re commends several steps which, if attempted, will give a new focus to Judicial Justice illuminated by the new Constitutional values and informed by the felt-necessities of life of the common people. The book constitutes a reasoned response to the challenges of the times and provides absorbing reading to lawyers and laymen alike.
