Generally, the books which have appeared in recent years in commemoration of the centenary of Indian National Congress are by and large mere listings of important events and happenings in the life of this unique political party and its leaders. Also,
these are more laudatory than objective in their approach.
The present volume dealing with the same subject is, however, different. It attempts not only to be very comprehensive in the assessment of the Congress as the leading national political party but also view its successes and failures in relation to the change and development in the Indian society.
